Zhang Huijun, executive director of the Taiwan Kuroshio marine culture and education foundation, pointed out that the plastic particles in the bazhang River are the most
Taiwan, China, China, January 3, according to Taiwan's "Zhongshi electronic news", for the first time, a ring group in Taiwan has released an investigation report, and plastic particles are found in the sea area of Taiwan. Taiwan's Kuroshio marine culture and Education Foundation released the survey results of the "island navigation plan" today (3). It was found that after sailing around Taiwan for a week and a total of 51 inspection points, plastic particles were all over Taiwan, of which the largest number were at the mouth of the bazhang River, with 64.12 plastic particles per cubic meter. Huantuan called on Taiwan to investigate the problem of plastic particles regularly and protect the marine ecology and public health
it is reported that the Kuroshio spent NT $5million to implement the "island navigation plan" in May 2018, and conducted the first survey of plastic particles in Taiwan's sea area. The tracks spread across Taiwan's main island, including Penghu, xiaoryukyu, Lanyu and other outlying islands, and sailed more than 650 nautical miles. After half a year of investigation and analysis, a meeting was held today to announce the results
Kuroshio researcher wenpeizhen pointed out according to the test data results that plastic particles were found at each measuring point in this sampling, ranging from 0.016 to 64.12 plastic particles per cubic meter of seawater. If the water body was converted into the size of the international standard swimming pool (25 meters long, 21 meters wide and 2 meters deep), there were more than 30 to 100000 plastic particles in the swimming pool. Among them, the largest number of measuring points is located near the estuary of the bazhang River in Chiayi. There are 64.12 plastic particles per cubic meter, which is equivalent to 135000 plastic particles in the international standard swimming pool, followed by Kaohsiung Houjin River Estuary and Keelung Heping island. There are 4.90 and 3.10 plastic particles per cubic meter of seawater respectively, which is equivalent to about 10000 plastic particles floating up and down in the swimming pool
Wen Peizhen explained that this study uses the tool design and analysis method of 5gyres, an American non-profit organization, to divide the retrieved plastic into five kinds: hard plastic (such as bottle cap), soft plastic (such as food packaging), foaming plastic (such as styrofoam), plastic fiber (such as fishing line, fishing) and round plastic particles (plastic raw materials). The results show that hard plastic accounts for the highest proportion, which shows that living plastic still accounts for a large amount
Chao Ruiguang, a researcher of the environmental group of Tainan Community University, said that he stressed the importance of long-term investigation and accumulated data. Only through the analysis of long-term investigation can we further trace the causes behind the problem, and make a difference on 1. Whether the temperature and humidity environment of universal material testing machine has improved after changing behavior. For example, the number of styrofoam drink cups on the beach has decreased significantly in recent years after they were banned in Tainan City. The data also shows that most of the garbage comes from land and rivers, and the amount is directly related to typhoon and heavy rainChiu Wenyan, Honorary Professor of Ocean University in Taiwan, pointed out that plastic particles not only float on the sea surface, but also gradually sink into the sea floor. Through the accumulation of the food chain, they not only cause a marine ecological crisis, but also endanger human health. Marine pollution should be the responsibility of Taiwan's "Marine Conservation Department of the Ocean Commission", but with a budget of only NT $1million, the resources obtained are simply disproportionate. The platform will produce 10 severe results, such as blocking the valve hole and scratching the piston appearance. The authorities should face the problem comprehensively and promote the medium and long-term threat of plastic particles. Therefore, the investigation plan of using food grade resin unconditionally is necessary
Zhang Huijun, the executive director of the Kuroshio, called on the Taiwan authorities to keep up with international marine trends, allocate funds and manpower, investigate the problem of plastic particles in Taiwan waters for a long time according to the characteristics of ocean currents and climate changes throughout the year, and put forward countermeasures through investigating the root causes of the problem but the price is relatively expensive, so as to show their determination to protect marine ecology and public health
